Our NHS and Private Care Options

You might be wondering, ‘how much does an abortion cost?’.

In the UK, abortion care is available from NHS providers like NUPAS. If a person is eligible for NHS services, there is no fee to pay for care. For people who cannot access NHS care, private care options are available. Private care means a person will pay for their abortion treatment.

NHS Abortions

NUPAS provide abortions on behalf of the NHS. Most of our patients come to us for NHS treatment. This means they are not charged any money for their abortion care.

We have clinics across England, in the North West, Midlands, Greater London and Yorkshire. We work in partnership with health care commissioners to offer local services.

How to Get an NHS Abortion

Self-Referral

You can self-refer to NUPAS’ NHS abortion services by calling 0333 004 6666.

We will ask for your address and details of your GP. This is to check that you can access NHS care with us. You don’t have to tell your GP that you are making an abortion appointment if you don’t want to.

Referral

You can ask a medical professional to make an NHS referral to us on your behalf. You can ask for a referral to NUPAS during an appointment with:

A contraception and sexual health (CASH) clinic.
A specialist clinic such as a Brook centre.
Your GP.

If the doctor you see does not refer to abortion services because of their beliefs, they must refer you to another doctor. This is based on rules set by the British Medical Association and the Department of Health.

Private Abortions

If you are not eligible for NHS treatment, we also provide private abortion care. Private fees for our abortion services are the following:
