When will I get my next period after an abortion?

Your period will usually come back 4 – 8 weeks after your abortion has completed. You will need to take a pregnancy test 3 weeks after your medical abortion to check the treatment has worked.

Some types of hormonal contraception can change your period or stop them all together. If you are using a new type of contraception after your abortion check to see if this can affect your menstrual cycle.
